While there are some positive things about this proposal, we remain concerned about the number of trees to be removed. Nearly 700 trees will be cut down – half of all the trees on the site now, including all the mature trees at the Preston and Carling intersection around the Dow’s Lake parking lot (Google Map view).
We are also concerned about the amount of surface parking – greater than we previously realized, with more than 600 spaces. This is particularly disappointing given that in 2018, hospital leadership committed to not have any surface parking on the site.
While we want to ensure there is sufficient parking to avoid spillover into the community, we believe there are more efficient ways to reach the nearly 3,100 spots planned for the site.
Another concern is accessibility, with no regular OC Transpo routes planned to actually go to the hospital site to pick up and drop off transit riders. This and other GACA input to City planners can be found on our website.
For those who have not yet sent in your feedback, the City is still accepting it through July, even though the official comment period has closed. Feedback can be sent via the online form or by email to the city planner: Sean.Moore@ottawa.ca.
