Notice to Residents: Tarion Public Consultations

GACA residents,

Please find enclosed the following notice forwarded the councillor’s office.

*************

To: Rick O’Connor, City Clerk:

As you may be aware, the Ontario government has appointed the Honourable Justice Cunningham to review existing home warranty protections for owners/purchasers of new homes and identify potential opportunities to improve consumer protection. More specifically, Justice Cunningham will be reviewing the Ontario New Home Warranties Plan Act (ONHWPA) and the Tarion Warranty Corporation (Tarion).

Justice Cunningham would like your assistance in circulating information to city councillors and interested parties about the review and upcoming province-wide public consultations.

Public consultations will gather feedback from owners/purchasers of new homes regarding the home warranty plan and the Tarion Warranty Corporation.

Public consultations were already held in Toronto and Mississauga, and seven more sessions are planned throughout the province. Your help in circulating consultation information will be of great help in making the upcoming sessions a success.

The public consultation for the City of Ottawa is scheduled for Tuesday, May 31, 2016 from 5-7 p.m., at the Ramada Ottawa on the Rideau, 2259 Prince of Wales Drive, Room: Rideau. Details on how to RSVP to the sessions can be found in the attached.

More information about the review, including the Terms of Reference, is available on the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services’ website at http://www.ontario.ca/page/consumer-protection-owners-new-homes.

Thank you.
