MPP Yasir Naqvi and MPP John Fraser Strongly Support Early Completion of Trillium Line Extension
February 28, 2017
Stage 1 of Ottawa’s LRT is right around the corner. Soon, residents in our City will be jumping on a train to get to work, school or their favourite restaurant. LRT will be an everyday reality for our growing community, and is a strong link to creating a sustainable environment for us to live in.
As the City shifts its focus to Stage 2 of the LRT, Ottawa Centre MPP Yasir Naqvi and Ottawa South MPP John Fraser cannot emphasize enough how important the additions are to the Airport, Bayshore to the west and Trim Road to the east. By 2023, our City will be connected and accessible to residents and tourists alike.
MPP Naqvi and MPP Fraser support the implementation plan for Stage 2 that will be voted by the Ottawa City Council at the Wednesday meeting. The MPPs have long advocated for an early completion of Trillium Line extension to the Ottawa International Airport and beyond. As a result, the City’s proposal means that the Trillium Line extension to the airport will be completed first by 2021 allowing residents and tourists to commute via train to and from the Ottawa International Airport and downtown. Further, the Trillium Line extension southward will ease traffic congestion right through the heart of the City. Commuters along the north-south corridors on Bronson Avenue, Bank Street and Prince of Wales Drive will have a dependable public transit alternative to their vehicle. The Trillium Line extension will also relieve traffic to South Keys in Ottawa South and make the commute to events at EY Centre and Lansdowne Park faster!
Ontario is proud to support Stage 1 of LRT through a $600 million contribution. The province has also committed more than $1 billion for Stage 2, including extension to Ottawa International Airport in the south and Trim Road in the east. This project will help grow the economy, reduce travel times and connect people to jobs. MPP Naqvi, MPP Fraser and the entire Ottawa Provincial Caucus team remain committed to the LRT development in Ottawa.
